About Sarah A. Varga
I started my professional career as a reporter for a small local newspaper chain covering the city of Belleair Beach. I covered the city council and events around town. I also shot related photographs.
Shortly after graduating from the University of the South Florida I went to work at the Tampa Tribune where I wrote obituaries, answered reader's questions and then was promoted to editorial assistant for the business news department. There I wrote a weekly column about business-related web sites, the business calendar and business people notices. In addition I was the editor of the newsrooms internal newsletter where I wrote and compiled stories. I honed my research skills at the Tribune and picked up a good eye for design and photography.
In June 2005 I started working at Progress Energy in the Corporate Communications Department. I had the pleasure of working on a variety of projects with a group of professionals I respect and learned tremendously from.
My position was eliminated due to budgetary constraints on February 11. I learned a lot at Progress Energy, including writing for a corporate audience, dealing with the media, executive-level event planning and understanding how the creative process can work in a large corporation.
Recently, I accepted an office manager position with Rexel Electrical Supply, a Fortune 500 company based in Dallas. While this is outside of the area I was hoping to land in, it is giving me in-depth experience with accounts receivables/payables, learning about a new business and I hope to help improve the marketing efforts in the in-branch retail store by helping to create a customer-friendly environment that encourages sales. I also am in the process of gaining my public notary license from the state of Florida.
I am a hard-worker, serious about my goals, passionate and ready for the next step in my career.
